A view to the History
The history of the hotel begins in the Islamic era, when the Moors constructed a farmstead, which served as the foundations for later construction. A significant aspect of that time was the use of the valley to supply water, with a supply planned and developed prior to the 13th century and which can be glimpsed in the water channels that are still preserved today. These channels characterised the estate, with its extensive resources, leading to the first recorded name: Arratxa (an old Arabic word that we think means stream or spring). Later, when the estate passed into Christian hands, the name Arratxa became "Es Ratxo". During the 15th and 16th centuries, thanks to the huge pine forest and vast expanses of brush vegetation that surrounded it, became an important centre of farming activity, particularly sheep rearing, but also cattle. At that time in the houses there would also have been an oil press (tafona) for the production of oil and to this end, part of the estate was used for the cultivation of almonds, olives, cereals and pulses. After the restoration of the existing buildings and the construction of new facilities, the Es Ratxo Hotel & Spa has become the reference point for high-class hotels in natural surroundings on the island of Majorca.

A restored 16th century oil press is the focal point of today`s gourmet restaurant, which is the pride of the hotel. The carefully chosen selection of dishes prepared by our chef are characterised by a mixture of flavours worthy of the most refined palate. In combination with our excellent cuisine, we have a carefully selected wine list to delight our most discerning guests.
Around the swimming pool, the Summer Bar offers an informal menu, which is no less delicious for that, to allow guests to lunch without having pause in their enjoyment of the swimming pool and the fantastic views from the hotel.
Our breakfast room, with its sweeping views of the valley, provides the ideal way to the day with a delicious buffet.
